children in cold car

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO  –  Two parents were cited for child abuse after police said they left two small children abandoned in a cold car at a Colorado Springs bar.

The children were driven to the Copperhead Road bar in the 3300 block of North Academy Boulevard by their father late Thursday night, according to police.

The father left the 6-year-old and 2-year-old in the car while he went into the bar to search for the children’s mother, police said.

Police believe the children were left alone for less than half an hour, before a good Samaritan noticed them and reported them to a security guard.

The children were not hurt.

Police arrested both parents, and cited them for misdemeanor child abuse before releasing them.

The Department of Human Services was notified of the situation, and the children will be moved to a different home temporarily pending further investigation.
